Benjamin Shao

Mechanical Engineering Student | Minor in Computer Science | McGill University

Hi, I'm Benjamin. This is my story.

I am an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student at McGill University with a minor in Computer Science. Being a diligent and self-motivated individual, I am driven to approach any challenge and to bring high-level contributions to projects. I combine my engineering spirit and experience in team collaboration to solve fundamental problems and to deliver exceptional results.

Passionate about technology and innovation, I strive to continue to explore and provide value to every field I work in.

MDA

Structural Analysis Intern

Montreal, QC

As part of the Mechanical Analysis team at MDA, I performed finite element analysis on subsystems of the OneSat telecommunications satellite. I ran simulations of subsystems in various static, dynamic, and thermoplastic cases to identify key problem areas. Having just taken a course on FEA at this time, it was a very rewarding experience to be able to directly apply in industry my knowledge acquired in class.

Product Lifecycle Management Intern

Montreal, QC

Working in the PLM Process team exposed me to the Product Lifecycle Management concept and how it is used in the aerospace industry. I had the opportunity to learn about how fundamentally important PLM is in the lifecycle of a product, from development and manufacturing to service of the product. My main project during my internship was to support the Agile development of a software to compute the total weight of engines and its subassemblies.

Project Management Engineering Intern

Mirabel, QC

As a Project Management intern, I tracked project metrics and priorities to support the planning and management of changes being made to the A220 aircraft. My internship greatly helped me understand how engineering is applied in large scale projects. I also got the opportunity to work on a project to reduce workflow time by analyzing data of aircrafts in production and in flight to isolate critical issues.
